Classes begin at UCLA, Dean leaves his father's and pledges the Epsilon Pi chapter of Sigma Nu fraternity. He takes room at the Sigma Nu house on the fringe of the university in Westwood at:

After 4 months Dean leaves Sigma Nu house after a fight with one of the other pledges. He leaves an unpaid bill of $45.

By Oct. 20 he was rehearsing.

Dean had enough money to keep his room at Iroquois when Bill Bast left for a writing job in L.A.

Early 1953
Jimmy moves out of the hotel first subletting an apt. on W. 56th St. from an airline pilot (letter to friend mentioning airline pilot?) and then rents a apartment alone at:

one small room once a maids chamber, to which he had to climb five flights of narrow stairs. Light entered through two round porthole windows.

Around this time regulars to the apt. included Martin Landau from Jimmy's Beat the Clock days and Bill Gunn his understudy from The Immoralist.
It is here where Kazan picks Dean up on Mar 8 or April 8?, 1954 to fly to L.A. for East of Eden.

While filming EDEN in Mendocino Jimmy stayed at:

The house which had remained virtually untouched since Dean's death is now undergoing a major remodeling. (caught fire?). Dean moved his during filming of GIANT in summer of '55. He rented it from Nico Romanos, maitre d at his favorite hang out at the time Villa Capri. The A-framed cottage resembled a Barvarian hunting lodge with one large room above which was suspended a sleeping alcove on a balcony.
